Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) or Cellular Exercise Therapy
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF), also known as Cellular Exercise Therapy, is a powerful way to recharge the cells in your body, helping them function at their best. This therapy enhances your cells’ ability to absorb nutrients, eliminate waste, and operate efficiently. One of the clearest signs that your cells need energy support is pain. Pain and fatigue are your body’s way of signaling that it needs help — they are your body’s cry for attention. Other indicators include weakness, reduced function in any part of your body, emotional imbalances, and overall dis-ease.
Your body naturally benefits from being in direct contact with the earth’s magnetic field, which is one of the reasons why people enjoy walking on the beach. The ocean’s saltwater is an excellent conductor, increasing the flow of energy from the earth to your body.
While the earth’s electromagnetic field (EMF) is safe and beneficial, modern technology—such as mobile phones, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, computer screens, and high-tension wires—emit EMF at harmful levels. This constant exposure bombards every cell in your body with disruptive energy.
Each cell in your body can be thought of as a battery, with a limited capacity to store energy. Much like a mobile phone, your cells can lose their charge over time and need to be recharged in order to function properly. Several factors can prevent your cells from generating or maintaining sufficient energy, such as physical injury, toxicity, inflammation, scar tissue, and poor nutrition—each of which drains your cellular batteries and diminishes their effectiveness.
FDA Approved
The FDA started approving PEMF back in 1979 for bone loss (it was even used by NASA to support the astronauts when they returned to Earth). The FDA made additional approvals in 1987 for post-operative edema and pain, 2004 as an adjunct to cervical fusion surgery, and 2011 for depression.
Since every cell in your body needs to hold a charge, every cell in your body can benefit from PEMF.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PEMF?
PEMF can be beneficial in helping with the following: stress management and emotional health, relaxation and sleep, performance and recovery, circulation, brain function and focus, immune support, bone and joint health, energy level and metabolism.
HOW DOES PEMF WORK?
The trillions of cells of your body maintain stored energy, or voltage, that represents the ability to execute the functions that keep you alive. When cells lose voltage due to environmental stressors, lack of exercise, injury, or inadequate nutrition it creates an environment for the onset of dysfunction that can lead to illness and chronic pain. Drafting on the mid-20th century laboratory work of Harold Saxton Burr at Yale that identified the link between measurable imbalances in the electrical field of an organ and the onset of illness, Dr. Jerry Tennant states in Healing is Voltage that cells, like batteries, are designed to run at -20 to -25 mV. When voltage levels drop cells struggle to function creating an environment for chronic pain and disease. The rapidly changing field of a pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) has been observed to induce an electric current in the tissue, producing stimulation of charged particles in support of optimizing the voltage necessary to maintain energy for normal cellular function.
IS PEMF NEW?
PEMF might seem like a new technology in North America, but it has been safely used throughout Europe and other countries for more than 50 years. 2000+ studies have proven the benefits of PEMF as it is a widely used therapy improving health and enhancing performance of people and animals around the world. For a more comprehensive history of PEMF, please visit Dr. Ryan’s blog here. IS PEMF SAFE TO USE?
PEMF is typically safe to use unless you have an implanted electronic device including a pacemaker, defibrillator, cochlear hearing device, are pregnant, actively bleeding or have blood clots. In such cases, PEMF may not be an option for you.
DOES PEMF TREAT OR ADDRESS HEALTH CONDITIONS?
As Dr. Magda Havas, Associate Professor of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent University states, “PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field) devices do not treat a specific condition. Instead they optimize the body’s natural self-healing and self-regulating function.”
IS PEMF COMPLEMENTARY TO OTHER MODALITIES?
PEMF is broadly useful because it is not limited to a body part nor does it treat conditions — it charges all the cells of the body. PEMF could also be complementary to other modalities and may enhance their effects.
ARE PULSE CENTERS PEMF SYSTEMS FDA APPROVED?
While there are PEMF devices that have been FDA approved to address specific medical conditions, Pulse Centers systems and accessories are designed to deliver PEMF as exercise to “optimize the body’s natural self-healing and self-regulating function” according to Dr. Magda Havas. PEMF SUCCESS STORY
I have been a patient in this office for quite a while and it gets better and better with all that it has to offer to maintain optimum good health and to treat and help with Chiro, PT, Pulse, Foot and Ankle, and weight loss, I have only good things to say and recommend this office completely. The staff is wonderful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Dr. T. is by far the best Chiropractor I have ever been to. His knowledge is not to be believed. Thank you everyone for your loving care.
